O Bright Smiling Morning

The Children Sing, 173

1. O bright, smiling morning, we greet thee with gladness, Brighter because of the gloom of the night; From sunset till dawning the world lay in sadness, Waiting thy coming all hearts to delight. The dewdrops are dancing with joy at thy coming, The flowers are nodding a welcome to thee; A thousand bright insects to greet thee are humming, All things look heav’nward thy glory to see.

2. O bright, smiling morning, we join with all nature, Gladly to welcome, and offer thee praise; Thy bright, shining glory lights up ev’ry creature, Scatters the shadows that darkened our ways. How blessed were the words when the mighty Creator First gave thee existence, saying, “Let there be light!” O bright smiling morning, thou life generator, All things do greet thee with fervent delight.
